A week of extraordinary skiing, between sea and mountains in the Bodø Alps, a region of deep fjords above the Arctic Circle where the mountains plunge into the sea. Less well known than the Lyngen Alps, this area delights us more and more each year with its wild side. The slopes here are completely untracked, as there are no other boats travelling to the area, and no roads that allow access by car. Each day, the boat will take you to the start of a different race, to remote, grandiose places where you will make your mark in virgin snow. You'll be accompanied in the mountains by French mountain guides.

The Bodo Alps

The Bodø Alps, which face the Lofoten Islands, are a magnificent landscape with a gentle relief plunging into immense, totally wild and deep fjords. In the heart of these seldom-visited mountains, imposing peaks covered in immaculate snow and dotted with birch forests offer themselves to hikers, while an impressive number of lakes nestling at various altitudes can be discovered. In season, the Bodø Alps become a magical place where the northern lights are very common. What's more, the waters of this region are particularly well-stocked with fish, which is sure to delight all fishing enthusiasts, who will be able to catch salmon and cod with the Polaris 1's fishing rods.

Course of the trip

Our playground is the Bodø Alps. We can offer you many different itineraries, for all levels: loops, circuits, crossings of islands and peninsulas. The great advantage of the boat is that you can pick up your skiers at any point, so there's no need to go back down the ascent route. There are still many promising areas that have yet to be explored on skis, and we're always up for a go! Our boat is fast and has a great range.
The daily vertical drops vary depending on the route, from 700m to 1350m for Helladisen, the highest point in the chain. These changes in altitude are of course counted from the beach, where you put on your skis! The atmosphere is very alpine and the snow is usually of excellent quality because it's so cold. Races generally last no more than 4 or 5 hours.

Our sailing takes place in the sheltered waters of the fjords, on calm seas, and the daily sailing time from the finish of one race to the start of the next is usually less than 3 hours. Sailing through the fjords is a great way to discover the beauty of the landscape, and we'll be stopping overnight alongside small wooden quays in typical little villages where you can wander around at your leisure. Sometimes we'll anchor in beautiful, wild bays where you can admire the Northern Lights and where fishing enthusiasts can catch haddock and cod.

You arrive at Bodø airport on Saturday afternoon and board the ship immediately afterwards. After visiting the ship and depositing your luggage in your cabins, you can use the rest of the afternoon to explore the town. We'll spend the first night docked in Bodø and set sail early on Sunday morning to be ski-in, ski-out at the start of the first race 3 hours later.
There is no 'rigid' programme, there are many possible runs and every evening the captain will check with the guide to choose the next day's run, depending first and foremost on what you want to do, but also on the level of the group, the state of the snow and the weather forecast. When you return from the trip in the afternoon, we'll welcome you on board with a hot meal and a welcome hot shower. We then set off for the starting point of the next day's race, and you can enjoy the late afternoon strolling ashore, or relaxing on board, fishing, taking photos...
