Southern Fjords Cruise

This cruise explores the Norwegian coast between Bergen and Alesund, passing through the famous fjord region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We offer you a peaceful week's sailing in the fjords, with many stops to discover the typical villages and beautiful landscapes for which this coastline is famous, where the mountains seem to rise out of the sea.

The programme below is given as a guide, with the understanding that changes may be made depending on the weather conditions in particular, the aim being to help you discover this region in the best possible conditions.

Course of the trip

Day 1 : Arrival in Bergen and boarding of the Polaris I at 6:30pm. Welcome drink, introduction to the crew, then dinner on board. Evening at leisure and visit to the town. Night in port.

Day 2 : The morning will be devoted to visiting Bergen, in particular the Hanseatic Quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We set sail at around 14:00 for a magnificent sail north through the Alversund channels, where we will thread our way through the afternoon before reaching the entrance to the Sognefjord, Norway's largest fjord (200 km long!). We will sail up the fjord overnight.

Day 3 : Sailing in the Sognefjord, we arrive in the morning at Naeroyfjord, where we discover the old postal route, a beautiful coastal path along the fjord. In the late afternoon, we'll head for the village of Flam. Visit the village.

Day 4 : From the village of Flam, take a train trip along the world's most beautiful railway line, which will take you up to the village of Myrdal, with waterfalls, torrents and precipices along the way.  The outward journey takes 2 hours, and you can take time to explore the area around Myrdal before catching the return train, or you can walk or cycle down to discover this magnificent valley.  Arrive on board at around 17:00 and set sail. Overnight sailing to the island of Kinn.

Day 5 : A day of very fine sailing, arriving in the afternoon at the islets and lighthouse of Stabben off Floro. If the weather is favourable, we'll make a stopover on the island of Kinn and take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful walk, and a spot of sea fishing for those who like it. Setting sail in the evening for Geiranger Fjord

Day 6 : Early morning arrival at the entrance to Geiranger fjord, which we will sail up to the 7 sisters waterfalls. Panoramic sailing along Norway's most famous fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its vertiginous peaks and large waterfalls, which we will approach as closely as possible. At the end of the morning we disembark for one of the most beautiful walks in the area to discover the old hanging farms and the meadows and forests overlooking Geiranger. At the end of the day, we dock at the village of Hellesylt for the night.

Day 7 : We set sail early in the morning for Alesund, arriving there in the late morning. The afternoon will be devoted to visiting this beautiful town, renowned for its magnificent Art-Nouveau style buildings.

Day 8 : Disembarkation and return flight.
