Bergen à Tromso Cruise

This cruise explores the coast of Norway from south to north, from Bergen, through the Lofoten Islands, an archipelago 200km north of the Arctic Circle, the historic land of the Vikings whose islands are among the most beautiful in the world, to the town of Tromsø, via the famous fjord region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We offer you a peaceful 2 week cruise through the fjords, with plenty of stops to discover the typical fishing villages and beautiful landscapes for which this coastline is famous, where the mountains seem to rise out of the sea.   At this time of year, tourists and mosquitoes have deserted the area, and the autumn colours are just around the corner, as are the northern lights at night when we're in the north. It's also very likely that we'll be able to spot killer whales and humpback whales when we arrive in the Lofoten-Tromso region.

The programme below is given as a guide, with the understanding that changes may be made depending on the weather conditions, in particular. Our aim is to help you discover this region in the best possible conditions.

Day 1 : Flight Paris-Bergen

Arrival in Bergen and boarding of the Polaris I at 6:30pm. Welcome drink, introduction to the crew, then dinner on board. Evening at leisure and visit to the town. Overnight in port.

Day 2 : Bergen-Sognefjord

The morning will be devoted to visiting Bergen, in particular the Hanseatic quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We set sail at around 14:00 for a magnificent sail north through the Alversund channels, where we'll spend the afternoon threading our way through before reaching the entrance to Sognefjord, Norway's largest fjord (200 km long!). We sail up the fjord overnight.

Day 3 : Fjord Norway, Naeroyfjord

Sail into Sognefjord and arrive in the morning at Naeroyfjord, where we'll discover the old postal route, a beautiful coastal path along the fjord. In the late afternoon we'll head for the picturesque village of Undredal. Visit the village and take a short walk, then sail to Flam.

Day 4 : Norway's fjords, Flam and the Flamsdalen valley

From the village of Flam, take a train excursion along a magnificent railway line that takes you up to the village of Myrdal, with waterfalls, torrents and precipices all along this mythical route.  The outward journey takes 1 hour, after which we descend on foot to discover this magnificent valley. It is also possible to cycle down. Arrive on board at around 16:00 and set sail. Overnight sailing to the island of Kinn.

Day 5 : Norway's fjords, towards Floro, Kinn Island

A day of very fine sailing, arriving in the afternoon at the islets and lighthouse of Stabben off Floro. If the weather is favourable, we'll make a stopover on the island of Kinn, where we'll enjoy a beautiful walk and, for those who like it, a spot of sea fishing. Set sail in the evening for Geiranger Fjord.

Day 6 : Geiranger Fjord

Set sail in the morning for the Geiranger Fjord, which we will sail up to the 7 sisters waterfalls. Panoramic sailing along Norway's most famous fjord, a Unesco World Heritage site, with its dizzying peaks and large waterfalls, which we will approach at close quarters. At the end of the morning we disembark for one of the most beautiful walks in the area to discover the old hanging farms and the meadows and forests overlooking Geiranger. We can also visit the village of Geiranger and its museum dedicated to the heritage of the area.

Day 7 : Grip Island

Weather permitting, we make a stopover on the island of Grip, a former fishing village cut off from the rest of the world, now deserted but whose dapper houses are used as second homes by the descendants of the families who once lived here. Visit the island and village, enjoy a spot of fishing or take a zodiac out to the lighthouse.

Day 8 : At sea, coastal sailing on the coastal express route

Sailing south along the coast, passing Torghatten, the famous pierced mountain. We follow the coastal express route through a maze of fjords.

Day 9 : Traena Island

A small, isolated island, Traena Island is absolutely unique for its jagged appearance and its many fish eagles. A walk around the island will reveal some incredible panoramas, as well as a gigantic cave the size of a cathedral.

Day 10 : Lofoten Islands, Reine

Arrive in Reine in the morning, wonderfully situated in its mountain setting. We explore the many fjords of Reine's inner bay, with their numerous waterfalls and breathtaking panoramas. Afternoon walking tour of the Bunesfjord to the pass overlooking the Atlantic. The cobbled road at the pass provided a link between the houses and the fishing grounds in days gone by.  Stroll along the beach and collect shells if the tide is right !

Day 11 : Lofoten Islands, Nusfjord

Visit Nusfjord, where we arrive in the morning. Explore the village and surrounding area of Nusfjord, a historic village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a walk along the coastal path or to the lakes overlooking the village. Set sail for Henningsvaer at the end of the day. Overnight in Henningsvaer, a fishing village nicknamed the Venice of the Arctic.

Day 12 : Raftsundet, Trollfjord and the inland route

Sail to Raftsundet to discover the famous Trollfjord with its impressive walls. Weather permitting, zodiac cruise in Raftsundet. Then a beautiful sail north along the inland route. Depending on the sightings and the weather, we'll head for Andenes or Tromso for whale watching.

Day 13 : Whale and orca watching

A day of whale and orca watching in the Kvaenangen fjord. At this time of year, the cetaceans come to take advantage of the abundance of herring to feed.

Day 14 : Discover the Lyngen Alps and visit the village of Havnnes.

The village of Havnnes on the island of Uløya is one of the rare nineteenth-century villages that has been perfectly preserved and still practises traditional cod drying. We visit the village, the fishery and the small museum illustrating life on the island in days gone by, then take a walk along the coastal path where the panorama of the Lyngen peninsula is exceptional. In the afternoon, sail along the cliffs of Lyngen Point and disembark at Strupen to get closer to a beautiful waterfall and watch the fish eagles.
